About Purple Tea

WHAT IS PURPLE TEA?
Purple tea, In Kenya it is grown in Mt. The Kenya region, like all other tea originates from the Camellia Sinensis plant and non-tea caltiva.
Purple tea is grown at elevations between 4,500 and 7,500 feet. This high altitude near the equator results in higher levels of UV bombardment, and causes the plants to produce very high levels of antioxidants to protect the leaves from damage. This allows the Tea Plants to sustain more intense sun rays causing it to produce high levels of protective anthocyanins and high levels of polyphenols (16.5%) than other Teas. The purple appearance of the tea is caused by a unique genetic mutation which produces anthocyanin, the same powerful antioxidant found in blueberries. In fact, it contains 1.5 percent compared to .1 percent for blueberries.

Anthocyanin Scientists believe the anthocyanins combat free radicals in your body, soothe inflammation, and power tremendous health benefits has many medicinal properties and is particularly known to be beneficial against cardiovascular diseases. These antioxidants are known to provide anti-cancer benefits, improve vision, and aid in cholesterol and blood sugar metabolism. At the same time, caffeine content is lower than that of black or green tea. Purple tea also contains higher amounts of another antioxidant – polyphenols. More than black or green teas (16.5 percent versus 10.1 percent for black and 9.1 for green). Like green tea, purple tea also has high levels of another form of antioxidant known as catechins, especially EGCG which is the powerful anti-oxidant found in green tea. These neuro-protective antioxidants permeate the blood brain barrier, and in a study performed on mice, significantly boosted brain antioxidant capacity.

There is another secret weapon in the purple tea collection…NOT FOUND IN ANY OTHER TEA OR FOOD. It’s a special type of polyphony called GHG. Initial research has shown that it can decrease fat mass & thickness while increasing lean body mass. Researchers think this is caused by GHG affecting lipase, the enzyme that breaks down fats so the body can easily digest them. In fact scientific research tells us that purple tea helps with weight loss and brain health. An extract of purple tea with GHG has been shown in two human studies to support weight loss. It decreased body mass index, fat mass, hip size, waist size, and subcutaneous-fat thickness while improving body composition and lean body mass.

POLYPHENOLS
Purple tea contains a unique and more powerful polyphenol than green or black teas (16.5 percent, compared to 10.1 percent for black tea and 9.1 percent for green tea), according to OmniVista Health Learning. Polyphenols are chemicals found in foods that help to prevent the damage of free radicals in the body — unstable molecules that can damage the arteries and cause numerous health problems. Different types of polyphenols exist, and eating a wide variety of foods will ensure you get the healthiest diet possible. Several studies have been conducted in an attempt to learn which foods contribute the highest levels of polyphenols to our bodies.
